Befrienders

Befrienders Penang came into existence in 1978 with a small group of 12 volunteers offering a three-hour service on weekdays. We are actively pursuing our ambition of providing a 24-hour daily service.

The service we offer is called Befriending. Befriending is confidential, non-judgmental emotional support that allows a caller to express his or her fears, worries, and feelings to someone trained to listen empathetically. We offer this service through our:

Our hotlines, 04-2910100 operate from Monday to Sunday: 3pm – 12 midnight every day of the year. Calls are normally answered in English but you can request to speak in Malay, Mandarin, Tamil or dialect.
